Conversations with Ana Oncina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Oncina.

Hi Ana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I studied Fine Arts and in the last year of my career, I made a comic ‘Croquette and Empanada’ that fortunately was published by a publishing house. Now it is also published in the USA. When I finished my degree in Valencia, I moved to Barcelona where I lived until last year. There I developed my skills and I could dedicate myself 100% to comics and illustration.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I moved to Barcelona, it was because of the romantic idea that there was all the artistic and comic movement I was waiting for. Living in Barcelona was expensive and complicated and even more so for a person who had just finished his studies, so when I moved, I started working in a hotel as a waitress. Fortunately, I started to get commissions and soon after, I left that job and started to dedicate myself 100% to my art.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an illustrator and comic book artist. I have published several comics in Spain but the first and the one that has been most published in other countries is ‘Croquette and Empanada’. They are autobiographical couple stories starring a croquette and an empanada. I have recently published a new comic entitled ‘Just Friends’. Currently, I combine editorial projects with my comics published in my Patreon: patreon.com/anaoncina.

Here you can find much of my work and my online store: www.anaoncina.com.
