Meet Kelsie Lyn of With Love by Kelsie Lyn in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsie Lyn.

Kelsie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing hair when I was 11 years old and I have loved makeup since FOREVER.

When I was 4 I knew I wanted to be a cosmetologist but I didn’t take a straight path there.

When I finally did get my license, it was literally my saving grace; like a hope for a new beginning in my life that I committed to whole heartedly. Having an entrepreneur mindset, I knew I had to learn the business aspects of the industry so I worked for high-end salons to learn from the best. I worked under Celebrity Stylist, Dr. Kari Williams for a minute, at Mahogany Revolution in Beverly Hills. Then studied under one of the best salons in Belmont Shore, Dean Anthony. Now being on my own, I can honestly say that I have a lot more confidence in myself and my work than I probably would have if it were not for the experiences I have had. It has definitely brought me to where I am today and Dr. Kari is still my business mentor.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When you hold your work to a certain standard and you know the value in it, you want clients who are willing to not only see that value but also invest. When I initially increased my prices, I lost a lot of clientele. Not because they weren’t committed but because they were not MY IDEAL clientele for the type of business I had envisioned. Every business has an ideal client they look to market to and I had begun to create a vision for my business and its growth, so with that came changes and they were some of the best changes I could have ever made. There were plenty of times I was concerned that I would not be able to pay my bills for the month but I trusted the vision God gave me. Of course, I made some mistakes along the way but who doesn’t. I am who I am because of it all.

With Love by: Kelsie Lyn – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I named it that because everything I do, I do it with love as my primary motivation. It’s basically my signature, my stamp, my mark. I am a Professional Hair Stylist & Makeup Artist who caters to all hair textures in cut, color and style and all skin tones via makeup for events, photoshoots, sets, weddings etc… I am also a Natural Hair Specialist, catering to all forms of natural hair in style, protective styling, braids, locks, etc… which is what I am most known for.

What I am most proud of is that there is really no one like me, or that I have met anyway.

No stylist who caters to ALL textures of hair in cut, color, and style and ALL skin tones.

You could sit anyone, of any ethnicity in front of me and I would know exactly what to do and how to execute it. I can truly say that I am unique in that area.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments are when I exceed my client’s expectations; when they leave my chair having learned something new or amazed at how their hair or makeup turned out. They are my proudest moments!
