Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Smith.

Hi Jazmine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I don’t know if it’s just because I’m a woman but I have always had a mild obsession with candles. I picked it up as a hobby when I got my first apartment and my friends and family would always either attempt to take them home or buy them from me. After moving to a new home and gaining custody of my sister right before the pandemic, my life became all about work and I needed a way to both be creative and make some extra cash. I started with a rough label and spent almost a year and a half searching for the right products to fit my business and the vision I had because I wanted my product to not only be perfect but to eliminate all the issues I had with candles I’ve purchased from other companies. I finally launched my business in June of 2021 and I can say all the hard work and time spent was definitely worth it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would honestly say it’s been the best of both worlds. I love my customers, the feedback they give, and the support I’ve received. Although the climb has been slow, as with any small business, my customers love the products I put out and I’ve received little to no complaints. On the other hand, just me being a perfectionist has played its hand in creating difficulties during the process of making my candles and I’ve also struggled with finding the correct packaging to ensure my candles make it to their destination in perfect condition being that the post official can be a little careless.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I make handmade, 100% soy candles in a variety of scents for both males and females. Those scents also come in air and car fresheners. I pride myself in using an immense amount of creativity from the names to the colors and toppings to set myself apart from the competition. The names however are what my customers tend to remember the most as they are clever plays on phrases we already know that perfectly match the scent purchased. I am most proud of simply making people feel good with their candle purchases. Candles can provide extreme relaxation, help with stress, and even be used in emergency situations so being that I’m giving people something they love and can also use for other needs is important to me.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I believe candles will always be a necessity. Scented or unscented candles have been used for ages and with all the new techniques, shapes, and sizes evolving I’m sure theirs plenty of business to come in the future. I intend to open up my own fragrance shop so I know this is the industry to do it in because smell goods are always in fashion!
