Meet Trisha Kwan of Beauty By TK

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trisha Kwan.

Trisha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2001, I originally wanted to become a graphic designer until one day I came across a book by Kevyn Aucoin called “Making Faces”. The before and after transformations inspired me to do the artistry of makeup! I started practicing on friends with drug store makeup. Then got introduced to MAC cosmetics. My goal at the time was to work for them, but first I started as a “floater” – someone who covers the floor when needed – in the cosmetic department at Macy’s. I eventually landed a full-time job at Prescriptives – where I learned more about color matching and skin care. In 2003, I eventually became a full time MAC makeup artist.

After 4 years of working at MAC, my passion grew and I wanted to grow more in the beauty industry so I decided to get my cosmetology license. I also worked at Anastasia Beverly Hills brow studio in Nordstrom and several salons from Pasadena and Whittier to gain experience in hair. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with actors, actresses, models, and clothing companies. I currently work with owner/hairstylist Judy Hiep of Let’s Go Hair Salon @letgohairsalon as a freelance makeup artist and brow artist. I also work with photographer Michael Anthony Hermogeno @8x10proofs as a freelance makeup artist.

Has it been a smooth road?
My mentality is this “Life is never a smooth road. You will always have your ups and downs, but your passion and positive attitude is what gets you through those bumps.” I love my journey and I’m still riding the ride. You will always learn and grow, and I love that I can help people feel beautiful not only on the outside, but help them see the beauty they already hold on the inside.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Beauty By TK story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in beauty makeup artistry and brow shaping and I’m known to be a professional, detailed, down-to-earth friendly artist – someone you can vent to while getting pampered. I’m told that I am light handed and gentle and people love how I make them look “naturally” beautiful. My brow clients love seeing their brows grow into the shape they want. I am also expanding my brow specialty by perfecting the microblading technique for my clients. I’m proud to say, I’m great with people and I am passionate about what I do. It’s important for me to provide quality work with old and new clients. I love my job and I love working with people! My customers tell me they feel comfortable with me and they love my work and they see the passion in what I do.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’m loving the wedding beauty industry and the daily brow shaping industry, so I will eventually expand and I also want to teach others my technique as well as teach them how to grow. I love educating my clients and other new entrepreneurs starting out! Trend is always changing, so I will always learn and update myself as well. I’m always excited to grow!
