Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Alexander.
Hi Larry, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado but was raised in Oakland, CA. I wanted to be a music artist for as long as I can remember. I was working with a Doug Rasheed who was a producer for the Tupac “All Eyes On Me” album. People in the industry thought I had talent at the time.
Unfortunately, I was caught up in the streets and fast money and ended up spending 17 years in prison. The entire time I was in prison, I was planning on starting an entertainment business if I ever got out because I had a sentence of 25-life. I got out in 2018 and moved to San Diego to start a new life. It was a huge struggle trying to acclimate into a whole new world with technology and the way people acted. That first year I was out was pure hell. I was working a minimum wage job and living in a group home and the entire time I just wanted to start my music business but I couldn’t even pay my basic bills. That is when I met my current girlfriend, Kimberly Ungricht. We were introduced by a mutual friend. She had just moved to San Diego from North Carolina two weeks previously. We have been inseparable ever since. When she learned of my dream to start a record company she pushed me to do it. She set up the LLC for Blockers Family Entertainment and we got busy. (Blockers is a family name) I found an artist on Instagram named R.E.D.D He lives in Houston. I believed he had talent and I wanted to sign him. In February 2020, I signed him, my first artist. We are currently working on getting his music produced and distributed and we are planning his first music video mid-October in Rosarito, Mexico. During this time since I started my business, I have also produced several local comedy shows.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. Caught up in the streets growing up, 23 years in prison and trying to make enough money to eat since I have been out of prison. Trying to use a smartphone! There was no such thing when I went to prison.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently trying to make my rap/singer artist, R.E.D.D the next big thing. I specialize in promoting and marketing because I am known for my personality and energy. I have loved music my entire life and have followed the greats; J. Prince, Michael Jackson, Prince, LL Cool Jay, Damon Dash, I am known for my love and knowledge of music and the industry. I am most proud of getting out of prison in time to see my daughter graduate from high school. I am different from most because of my drive and determination. Kimberly says I am like a pit bull. I don’t stop until I get exactly what I want. My dream is to own an NFL team.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Dont spend time with people who are not supportive and who are not driven themselves. Anything less is a waste of time.
