Hidden Gems: Meet Tahira Davis of SweeteeCakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tahira Davis.

Tahira, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a full-time mom pursuing a PhD in technology and innovating management (more to come on that front), and I work in the Healthcare industry. When I realized I needed to do something to fulfill my passion, I considered baking as a hobby. I started baking casually when my second daughter was born. She was severely allergic to many of the common ingredients used in traditional baking so I had to get inventive in the kitchen. Two years ago, I decided to share some of my creations on Instagram and to my surprise there was a great interest in the products I was creating. Pair that with my love for art and all things creative, and you get SweeteeCakes. The idea behind SweeteeCakes is to pair traditional recipes and art and also make the same items available to those that may be restricted to certain ingredients (no dairy, no sugar, gluten-free, etc.).

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While the business aspect has not been easy, the fact that this is a passion and not a job has allowed me to take some risks along the way. Covid-19 has also created some setbacks; I suffered severe illness which prevented me from serving customers at all. Getting permits has also created hardships because they can be really expensive and all the costs are out of pocket. The greatest challenge has been trying to figure out how to get a delivery service going to help customers get the items they want. From creating the LLC to finding suppliers for packaging and trying to open an online store, this has forced me to learn new and better networking skills. The upside is that this has also helped me in learning to promote my business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
SweeteeCakes LLC is a home bakery located in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. I am the owner/operator and we specialize in bringing our customers distinctive tastes with artistic presentation. We are mostly known for creating a wide range of dietary-friendly deserts using ingredients such as monk fruit sweeteners, dairy replacements, gluten-free flours and more. Unlike other bakeries, we take in orders that are fully customizable and our niche is that we want to combine art and baking so we paint, stamp, hand-carved, and use unique ingredients and flavors to make our products. Brand-wise, we are proud to bring the customer’s ideas to life by not limiting them to a set menu of flavors and styles. We also love that we have specialty items such as eclairs, cream puffs, and macarons. We are also anticipating launching our online store where customers can buy baking supplies and cake decor and more.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Flexibility, consistency, creativity, and passion.
