Today we’d like to introduce you to Corryn Hurrington.
Hi Corryn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My expertise has always been in storytelling and visual aesthetics. I’ve had a knack for color theory, highlighting emotional elements and humor since the Myspace era. Fast forward, today I’ve been able to work alongside start-ups and enterprise brands alike, to create brand strategies, secure top-tier earned media, and develop impactful campaign activations that have created viral and cultural moments. With over seven years of industry experience, I’ve worked at different capacities in a wide range of industries. From cannabis, artificial intelligence, beauty, retail, hospitality; you name it and I’ve more than likely pitched it or integrated the idea into some larger communications plan. As of late, I’ve been consulting and working as a freelance publicist on projects that focus on authentically connecting brands with multicultural audiences. I am extremely passionate about the intersection of culture and media and how it shapes our everyday lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When you’re working at the will of the client and in tandem with the news cycle, there’s no such thing as an easy day or smooth path. Some working days feel like an ongoing loop of imposter syndrome, managing client expectations, and finding creative inspiration. My biggest challenge when first starting my firm was over-servicing, doing work that was outside the scope of a project, which ultimately could have threatened my profitability as an agency entirely. Implementing, project management software and bringing on junior level talent has helped with this tremendously.
As you know, we’re big fans of Brand X Agency. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We are a collective of creatives, storytellers, and culture purveyors, specializing in evolving brands, crafting digital strategies, and compelling content that drive earned media results. We perform our best when curating concepts that change conversations, challenge perceptions, and create meaningful consumer connections and experiences. Marketing jargon aside, we are your publicist and your person.
We’re always super proud of our brand identity work. When almost every market is oversaturated, we’ve been able to make our client’s brand feel different but still relatable and interesting enough to take up market share, create brand loyalists, and cult-like social media followings.
We’ve also had a chance to work with some industry greats, including Erykah Badu on the launch of Badu World Market and Photographer Joshua Kissi to name a few.
