Meet Conrad Khalil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Conrad Khalil.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Honestly, going as far back as before Middle School, I was fascinated with recreating scenes and photos I watched on TV and saw on MySpace. I had one of the tiniest Nikon point and shoot cameras ever and found a way to make images that had my family shocked by what they saw as a natural talent. Following me through my teen years, I went to Arts High, the first Performing Arts School in Newark, where I was always the kid with the camera. Fast forward to College, I sharpened my skills by using my friends as muses and found a way to monetize my gift in my community. It all made room for my transition to Los Angeles and the opportunities that have followed since. So grateful!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, the road has been decently smooth…but I credit that to my optimistic mindset more than the road itself. The greatest struggles so far have been finding ways to balance my passions and learn the business aspect of them that eventually comes as you level up in the game.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I ditched the title “Photographer” some years back and have re-issued myself the term “Moment Maker” or “Visionary” because they free me from the photographer’s box that can be pretty one dimensional at times.

I specialize in seeing the potential of a moment in my mind and orchestrating the production to capture it and sometimes with little to nothing.

I believe I am known for making people that I photograph feel so good in front of my camera that it elevates the outcome of the photos we shot and ultimately makes the experience just as memorable as the finals.

I am most proud of my consistency over the years and being okay with progress no matter how slow it was.

I think my perspective on life and my goal to always push the limits on art is what sets me aside from others. As well as the fact that I spend more time feeding my own ideas for growth and leaving the rest to support my peers and clap for them.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is being able to contribute to any space I’m in. I think it’s just a part of my helpful nature, but it makes a person valuable TO be adaptable and contributive almost anywhere.
