Meet Donna of Templeton Insurance Services in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Templeton.

Donna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have a passion for traveling and have been lucky to visit many exciting places: Thailand, Belize, Costa Rica, Australia, most of Europe and may other exciting places. My passion has morphed into my dream of an early retirement and a plan to live all over the world: 6 months in one location and then off to someplace new.

While I am dreamer and adventurer; I also want a level of safety and security. I wondered how to get that safety and security while living abroad and discovered what I believe to be the solution and have launched ExpatriateIns.com.

Now I get to combine my passion for travel, with my insurance business to help the globally mobile individual. My insurance business has grown double-digits each of last six years. I believe the reason for my growth is the time I spend with each client answering their questions. The better one understands their coverage; the less hassle and cost there will be if/when the times comes to use it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge with healthcare is the ever-changing landscape. When I first joined the industry, the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care) was being rolled out and it brought tremendous change to the industry. Now with the new administration in Washington and with “Trump Care” on the horizon, there is sure to be a whole new set of rules and regulations. It takes a lot to keep up with the laws and how the insurance carriers work to implement them. While I may not always know the answer to every question, I have made a lot of great contacts in the industry and have the resources to find the answers to some unique situations.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Templeton Insurance Services – what should we know?
What set’s my business apart – me! I sell a commodity that you can buy directly from the carrier for the same exact price; there is no discounting with insurance. I deal in three specific areas: Medicare, international health and individual under 65 health insurance. I am a broker, that means I work with multiple carriers; not just one. I work with all the major carriers to help ensure the most options for my clients and so that I may find the best plan for them.

My business has experienced year-over-year growth as my clients continue to refer their friends and family. Clients refer for a couple of reasons, the main reason being is the time that I freely spend to make sure they understand the product, both the pros and the cons. It might not sound exciting…but really, I believe that customer service sets my business apart and is why it continues to grow.

What does the future hold for Templeton Insurance?
My niece, Crystal has recently joined the business and I’m thrilled to be mentoring her. The plan for me is to retire in five years and at that time to leave my business in her capable hands. I will continue to expand my entire base of business, but especially the newest component of International Health Insurance. The challenge is to continue to provide the superior customer service of a boutique agency. My ultimate goal is to have a thriving, small business that provides a good living for a few, like minded associates who take great pride in consulting people on an important aspect of their life.
