Check Out Ayo Awobajo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayo Awobajo.

Hi Ayo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Faith Love Optimism (FLO) is a lifestyle brand that was founded in 2019. We started out as a clothing brand with a mission to spread the good news to people through contemporary fashion. We now run a clothing line and a podcast for all to see. We relied a lot on word-of-mouth marketing to communicate to people that we were more than just a fashion brand. We wanted to let people know that they have a God-given identity, and through learning who they are in the eyes of God, they can live and lead purpose-filled lives that other people can tap into. With little funds and much faith, we went ahead and took a leap of faith to start this brand which has grown into a community of over 600+ people who seek to live a life that is distinct in every way.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Far from a smooth road. In fact, there were so many twists and turns that led to a lot of fear and doubt, wondering if this brand would even become anything. One of the major struggles early on, and still is, was financing our operations. Through grace and generous patrons, we’re fortunate enough to see that things are slowly changing in that area. Another area was creative vision. I work with my two brothers, Temi and David, who have been instrumental in the work we do here within FLO. However, there were times were trying to figure out designs, understanding the type of content we wanted to put out and knowing our aesthetic was very challenging. Things have been getting better in that area, but we are always looking for ways to improve what we do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
By day, I am a full-time student at University of Maryland. I am a marketing and information systems major, and this current summer, I’ve been blessed to intern with YouTube under their Music + Premium Marketing team. It’s taught me so much about consumer analysis, brand tone, voice, and so much more. It’s amazing because a lot of this subject matter is extremely applicable to the work being done here with FLO when it comes to understanding our audience, who we are targeting, and how to best create an experience that makes them feel warm and welcomed. To reach a user, it helps to first be a user. A lot of this ties back to being able to empathize with others, one thing that we see the world lacks at times. I believe that is what sets our brand and myself apart – our ability to be empathetic. When you understand others, you know how to respond to them, you know how to love them, and that is the message we want to get across to people today.
