Today we’d like to introduce you to Goldlove. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Goldlove is a pop production duo consisting of Asian-American twin sisters. Our musical background spans from classical composition to production, and our sound is very eclectic, inspired by pop, alternative, and country/folk genres. We began writing music at the age of seven and started producing in high school. At first, we produced only for other recording artists, but in 2020, we stepped into the spotlight with our debut single “Listen”. Through the record label J&J Records LLC, we have released a string of nine singles showcasing our diverse skills and influences and featuring numerous talented artists. With singles like “Maybe Tomorrow” and “To You”, we hope to become the first breakthrough Asian-American production group.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a relatively smooth road thus far. The biggest challenge we’ve had was definitely trying to learn and refine our production skills just starting out. We grew up in a more rural city where songwriting and production were not very common, and no one in our family knew the first thing about the music industry, so we were basically on our own when it came to learning music theory songwriting, production, distribution, etc. We ended up relying heavily on YouTube tutorials. Luckily, everyone has been so supportive, and our parents, especially, really cheered us on, and we wouldn’t be here without them and all the people who gave us feedback, resources, and help along the way.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As we mentioned earlier, we’re a pop production duo, so we write, produce, and engineer all of our music and feature various vocalists on each song. We mainly make pop music, but it also varies, leaning more into EDM sometimes and other times, indie, rock, or country. Since we have a classical background (we were classically trained in piano and played in concert band through school), we also incorporate elements of cinematic or concert music into our songs. And I think this unique mix of influences really shows in our work and sets us apart. We’re also female and Asian-American, an extremely underrepresented group in the music industry, so we want to help inspire other young aspiring musicians as well.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson we’ve learned is to just keep working at our craft every single day to make sure we’re always improving. I think it’s easy once you’ve completed an album to feel satisfied with where you are, and while we all deserve a break every once in a while, there’s always room to grow. So, we try to keep learning new things every day, even if it’s something small like a keyboard shortcut on Logic or something bigger like writing a lyric. And just practicing constantly helps us not only stay on top of the projects we’re working on but also continue to improve and innovate as artists.
