Conversations with Murv Douglas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Murv Douglas.

Hi Murv, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As an extremely multi-racial person, I realized at a young age that I had no choice but to fit in nowhere with no group of friends, and must by default, be different. I later learned that to be different is to be uncomfortable and also to be worth watching onstage, a performer but be unique. In finding ways to perform, dress and wear my hair that made me self-conscious or uncomfortable, I found that these discomforts are the benchmark of performing in a way that makes the show interesting.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has never been smooth, it has been full of failures and hard work such as keeping in good physical shape, learning to mix my own music, learning to create my own music videos.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most proficient as a singer and a bass player, but also I can say that I am a very talented video editor. I have been working very hard for years to improve my musical production, and that seems to be an ongoing endeavor to learn and improve.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was argumentative, creative, and always very excited to get things moving. I was in every band I could find and never said no to an offer. I ended up mostly playing bass in bands, as usually I never trusted anyone else to play what needed to be played on the song, but that was mostly because all the musicians around me when I was a child were armature (as was I) and I was stubborn about what I wanted to hear.
