Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Polucki. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I used to believe that drugs and surgery were the answer to any health concern. At 16, after three surgeries and five ongoing prescription medications I discovered chiropractic. After three months of chiropractic care I was off all prescription medications and in the past 34 years I have not even needed an aspirin.
About ten years ago my wife and I consulted our family doctor about starting a family. We were told that all the tests came back fine and we could have as many children as we wanted. Six months later my wife went through the worst menopause I ever heard of.
We went to specialists for years and nearly lost everything without any lasting results. Finally, we discovered functional medicine and within weeks my wife’s crippling symptoms were gone. I went back to school and now offer functional medicine along with no twist or crack chiropractic.
While becoming more popular, many people still don’t know much about functional medicine. I tell my patents that instead of temporary relief with drugs, functional doctors find and rehabilitate body malfunction.
Most patients get detoxification protocols, a customized exercise, nutrition program and stress management strategies. Sometimes bio-identical hormones help jump start the recovery process for those too worn down by chronic stress.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not every doctor can survive practicing “complimentary” medicine. We don’t have the safety net of hospitals and only recently gained the respect of conventional medical doctors.
Most people would rather take a pill, get a shot or surgery than try something different.
More often than not, my patients already saw their medical doctor and a few specialists before they come to me.
And it always surprises them when they quickly get the relief they couldn’t find anywhere else.
We all face our challenges and the ever increasing expense of conventional medicine pushes more people to experience the real value of chiropractic and functional medicine.
