Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Smalls.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I got started with photography in high school, as a part of a magnet program for the arts, I was introduced to photography while taking a darkroom photography class. I opened my first photography studio in 2015 in South Carolina and went full-time with photography that year as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been relatively smooth starting my career off in my hometown in Columbia, Sc. I grew my clientele pretty easy because I knew how to maneuver easier in the place I was born and raised. My biggest challenge thus far is growing my clientele in places I’m not as familiar with.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer, I specialize in studio photography mainly. I’m known for a lot of my work in Alpha Magazine where I shot a few of their past covers, from Jacquees, Karen Civil, Essence Atkins to name a few.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for new Photographers is to learn the business aspect of photography just as much time you use to perfect your craft use the same amount or more to learn the business side to set yourself up for success on all sides.
