Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Maramba.
Hi Daniel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My creative journey was just an experience of reality unfolding before me and searching for a way to convey a message of hope & joy. After the traumatic events that occurred from my youth, I’ve always had that spirit that was eager to create purpose-inspired stories but never had a solid outlet to hone it. But eventually searching for that creative platform led me to become uninspired and unmotivated.
After many years, I discovered that my creative outlet was through photography. It started off by taking photos of my car traveling to the most aesthetic places, inspired by the car community on Instagram. and then later having my friends model for it towards the end of 2018. That creative direction shifted towards street fashion photography in mid-April of 2019, and I knew that this is where I began to develop a passion for the craft. My artistic foundation was set upon two of my favorite companies, Urban Outfitters and Pacsun. They have inspired my work and photoshoots all throughout the rest of 2019, setting up my portfolio on Instagram.
Fast forward to late 2019 to early 2020, I decided to go outside of my comfort zone. I have been reaching out to a lot of creative influencers through photo meet-ups and networking through Instagram, establishing a relationship in hopes to collaborate on future projects. One of those meets was the “SubtleAsianPhotomeet”. That experience brought me to seek out different styles of photography, but that led me to a depressed state. At that time, I wanted to reach that level of clout, however I found myself creating work that was not of my own. I wasn’t enjoying the craft, it just felt like I was forcing myself to love it because of wrong intentions.
After taking time off from social media, I came back with the self-realization that photography was more than just doing photoshoots, it was the relationships that were being built through it. I couldn’t have done it without my best friends and family reminding me that art is subjective to the creator, and as long as you’re true to yourself, your story will have an impact on the community and on the rest of the world. There my friends and I created a small brand called “Crxtive Clxbhxse”, which was based on our friendship, and it went on to help support the community of creatives. I continued to seek my purpose and inspiration for my new creative project, new content that was unique to that purpose. Through Instagram, I came across many Japanese and Korean portraits which had an impact on my project’s purpose. That project brand, which stands today is called “Chvsing Clouds”. Just like Crxtive Clxbhxse, but it’s a platform that creates the idea of being free from anxiety, anxiety as a whole, and creative anxiety. So its content consists of bright and soft tones and is overall kept minimal outdoors.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been the most comfortable. During the early stages of this journey, I found it very difficult to be okay with my progression in the creative community. Having high standards of perfection for myself because of the comparison with my own work to other artists. As I continued to grow and develop my own niche in the creative market, it was a lot more challenging to learn and accept more about myself through the obstacles of reality. Of course as of recent, I’ve made tremendous progress and learned to accept the things that I can and can not control. All things take time, no matter the case.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
A lot of my work is heavily inspired by Japanese and Korean lifestyle portraits. That’s the type of art that I want to continue to pursue and perfect, alongside incorporate styles inspired by Urban Outfitters and Pacsun campaigns. Most of what I do is portraits. I don’t think I specialize in anything but a person who clicks the button on the camera. I’m known as an artist whose art reminds the viewer of art that is Japanese and Korean inspired. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come ever since I started photography, taking that first step to reach out to other creators on Instagram. What sets me apart is the style of editing, concepts, composition, and story.
