Rising Stars: Meet Dior Parks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dior Parks.

Hi Dior, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m from Compton, CA and I started taking music serious a year ago. Before music, I had dreams of playing college basketball, when I got hurt I decided to give it up and just go to school full time at CSUN. While there, I started making music in my dorm with my brother, when covid hit I came back home to Compton and dropped my first song with some motivation from my family. Initially, nobody knew I could sing, rap, or make music period, I had to gather the confidence to put myself out there and allow others to hear my music.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth for me but I can say the experiences are worth it. Most of my struggles come from within and just being confident and patient about the process. I’m changing and growing by the day so with that comes struggles but nothing I can’t handle

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Artist; Writer, singer, rapper. I’m mostly known for singing and rapping. At the moment, I have three singles out Be who You wanna, Birthday Cake, and Demon Time. I’m proud of all three but I’m most proud of what’s next. The thing that sets me apart from others is that my voice and style of music is so diverse you never know how I’m gonna come on the next track. Another thing that sets me apart is the fact that I freestyle. 90% of my song are organic meaning were created strictly off vibes and me being in front of the mic.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love my city, there’s nothing I love. When I was younger, I didn’t appreciate it as much as I should’ve but that’s because all I knew was my city. But as I grew up, I learned to cherish my roots and where I was raised. My people and the culture are my favorite thing about the city.
