Meet Alexandra Fallon of Splash Coatings in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Fallon.

Alexandra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
It all began with my passion for cars; working on them, racing them. I’ve always been self-determined, eager to prove those who didn’t believe in me wrong. While also managing my fiancé’s metal fabrication business, I started doing automotive vinyl wrapping and commercial signage on the side. I simply just enjoyed being around cars and the industry. I toyed with the idea of doing my own powder coating and metal refinishing, I have always loved using different tools and machines. After researching all aspects of opening up my own powder coat shop for a long six months, I finally pulled the trigger and applied for a small loan and also for a shop location in Anaheim. I was approved the month before my 24th birthday, and it was by far the best present I had ever given myself.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle I have faced is being a woman in a predominately male industry. Being a sports-loving tomboy in my adolescent years, I was already accustomed to being the lone female among males. I am frequently asked about how I got into this industry, with particular emphasis on my age and gender, anyone who personally knows me, knows I am the last one to be daunted by society’s gender standards. Although during this journey, I have found a great number of supporters as well, the kind that fully support breaking society’s common mold.

Splash Coatings – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Splash Coatings offers powder coating, metal refinishing, polishing, paint stripping, sandblasting, and wheel repair services. Splash Coatings specializes in serving automotive, motorcycle and off-road enthusiasts. While we also cater to commercial production jobs, our passion is customizing race and show vehicles. Outside of normal business hours, you can catch us at local car meets, shows and events. Splash Coatings is one of the very few shops offering custom color mixes. Wheel manufacturing companies especially contract with us for our custom mixes to set their products apart from the competition. We also order from a dozen different powder manufacturers to offer you the very best color and durability options. Being a small-scale shop, we pay extra attention and detail to each part., ensuring the correct process is done for that particular part and its application. We take the extra time because we truly love what we do.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments are going to a large public event and seeing my work on display. From the holy grail of automotive shows, SEMA to smaller local car meets, seeing my work on display and photos posted from the events online is what truly inspires me every day. My favorite project so far actually has nothing to do with the automotive industry, but instead with another passion of mine. A dog rescue near Murrieta, called Shadow Husky Ranch contacted us for signage and powder coating for their entrance gate. They came to us with just a simple sketch and their company logo. We turned a simple sketch into a four-foot round sign with their husky logo, a two-tone custom welcome sign, and another nine-foot entrance sign with their city name. All signs and fences were powder coated for extra weather and corrosion resistance. The best part about this project, was being invited to stay on the ranch for the weekend during the sign installation. I had the pleasure of playing with twenty-five husky dogs all weekend, an experience I will never forget.
