Conversations with Mark Evans

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Evans.

Hi Mark, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in upstate NY, playing guitar in various bands. Eventually moved to NYC where I got really into djing and ended up touring and releasing electronic for a number of years until I moved to LA and segued into more pop / alt pop / alt rock production.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not a smooth road! There are always struggles along the way. I think it’s important to just really focus on what inspires you the rest will follow suit. Otherwise it’s easy to get distracted by all the other things that don’t really matter and it ends up taking away from the art.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a multi-instrumentalist / music producer / songwriter. I’ve honestly worked in almost every genre at this point. I DJed for a number under the name Mark The Beast. I put that project to rest over the last few years to focus on different genres and sort of follow more the direction I was being pulled in. Lately, I have been doing artist development and working on some of my own projects. I just launched my own project with my buddy Choppa Dunks called sharks! (with an exclamation point) and we have a ton of music coming out that I’m really excited about. We’ve been collaborating a lot with our friend Mija so expect a lot of music from us in the very near future. I’ve been writing tons of music with my buddy Grabbitz as well, I won’t go into too much detail on that but you can expect to hear more about that this year 🙂

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Really time management and the importance of how you spend your time and not to waste it. I used to do lots of random sessions, and that’s something that I kind of stopped doing. I was really not focusing enough on what I was passionate about and sometimes that feels like you’re just shooting in the dark. But you know you can learn something from every situation and everyone’s journey is different so everything really for the best at the end of the day.
