Daily Inspiration: Meet Whitney McClain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney McClain.

Hi Whitney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been singing ever since I was young but I didn’t decide to pursue it professionally until 2014. Around that time, I was struggling through college after receiving a major concussion but I also began to feel a strong connection to music and felt like I needed to pursue it professionally. Shortly after that, I left college and I recorded and released my first single “Bombs Away” and it took off on YouTube. Following the momentum of that success, I went on to record my debut EP “Nothing to Lose”. At that time, I was living in Austin and my manager encouraged me to move out to LA to hone my craft. Since then, I’ve been hard at work sharpening my skills at songwriting and expanding my versatility musically. My latest project, “Letters From A Broken Heart” shows the growth in my writing and recording skills. “ Letters From A Broken Heart” was special to me because I was able to express raw emotions. At the top of this year, I released my song “Top Spot” which is an upbeat and empowering song that expands my musical catalogue into the Pop genre.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been smooth. Since moving out to LA, I’ve struggled off and on with depression. That really affects my creativity and drive to make music when times get tough. That’s something I continue to work through when it creeps back up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Pop R&B Soul artist. I think I’m most proud of how much I’ve grown as an artist. Humility and kindness truly mean a lot to me. It doesn’t matter if nothing else comes from my efforts other than making someone’s life a little bit better means a lot to me. I don’t know if I’m the only artist like that there may be others, but I’d like to think that that makes me different as an artist.

What matters most to you? Why?
I think it’s so easy to get distracted by all the things going on in the world and the mundane issues of life. What matters most to me is to have peace within myself peace with God and love in my family because I think those things are precious.
