Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Moreno.
Matthew, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began with Medium Large Sports Media as an intern in January 2014. I was quickly elevated to working as one of the main editors for our Dodgers’ website before the start of the regular season that year. When a required change from the Dodgers Nation umbrella came about in 2015, I was promoted Managing Editor of DodgerBlue.com and tasked with overseeing the development of that website and social media properties. Then in December 2016, my role was expanded to work in the same capacity for LakersNation.com.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like everything else in life, there have been challenges and obstacles along the way. I would say the biggest was having to start a new Dodgers website from scratch. Fortunately, our supporters followed us to the new URL and DodgerBlue.com has steadily grown since launching. And when my role was expanded to also running LakersNation.com, it meant needing to be an even better time manager.
Where I will say I have been fortunate is with the increased acceptance of online media. It’s afforded me opportunities that otherwise may not have been as easily accessible. At the end of the day, I’m essentially getting to do my dream job of covering the two sports teams I grew up watching.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Medium Large Sports Media – what should we know?
I would say my specialty lies in developing and maintaining a daily content schedule, regardless of whether the Lakers or Dodgers are in season or not. It requires a tremendous amount of commitment, but frankly that’s made easier when as previously alluded to, this is basically a dream job for me.
I’m most proud of the writing staff we’ve assembled at Medium Large Sports Media and the team-first culture.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think my work ethic and mentality of taking responsibility for missteps but not needing the spotlight or praise for success have been key to my career. I like to believe I’m someone who is always willing to pick up the slack if there’s any void, and honestly I’m happy to do so without needing any sort of recognition.
