Today we’d like to introduce you to Eve-Marie Bilodeau and Guy Simard.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband and I are originally from Montreal, Canada and had been art collectors for many years. More than 7 years ago, an artist we were collecting and that wanted to expand his exposure, asked us if we would be interested in promoting his work throughout the world in art fairs. We were excited to imagine that we could travel the world promoting artists we loved, sharing their visions and their artworks and meet fascinating people from different cultures. We did not hesitate and took the challenge. Very quickly, we were exhibiting in Canada, USA, China and Hong Kong, with permanent galleries in California and Shanghai. It all went very fast with lots of love, efforts and willingness.
Having a gallery in China is very different from having one in the US. The approach is different, the cultural interactions are also worlds apart. We keep learning from those relationships every day. Each exhibition, each art fair, is a journey and a growing experience. There is not one boring day in our field. We thrive to find new artists that we feel will cater to our clientele. Our goal is for everyone to win: the artists and the collectors. The quality of our relationships is at the heart of our mission. We have just relocated our California base gallery from Laguna Beach to Downtown Los Angeles. We see the change that has been developing for the arts in the Arts District, and we wanted to be part of the change.
Has it been a smooth road?
Having a business that operates in different parts of the world is never all smooth. There are challenges every day. We need to always re-adapt and adjust. The art world is always changing, we want to be aware and re-position ourselves on a regular basis.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Simard Bilodeau Contemporary – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We commit to both our artists and our clients on the long term. We aim to give our artists the best exposure possible and increase their credentials over time. That is beneficial to both the artist and the client. It is not about quantity, it is about quality. We are dedicated. We have established our reputation for quality artworks, original paintings, and more specifically sculptures, having done large projects in America and Asia.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Likes: the multicultural life, amazing restaurants, the kindness of people, the proximity of nature such as beach, mountains, desert, hikes, …
