Rising Stars: Meet Bigs & Bangs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bigs & Bangs.

Michael “BIG MIKE” Hart Jr & Greg “BUDDY BANGS” Reed Jr both grew up in Sacramento, CA they come from two musical families in the city. Big Mike played guitar at church where his uncle was the Pastor and Buddy Bangs uncle was the musical director and organist when they were introduced as teenagers. Buddy Bangs came to sub in for the drummer at the church one Sunday and they have been making music together ever since. From playing in church as kids to starting a high school band called (Electik) to transitioning to music production in college, they created a music production company called Rhythm Section Ent. with themselves and Chris “Showtime” Beck. After relocating to Los Angelas Big Mike Hart & Buddy Bangs decided to rebrand as BIG & BANGS, and with doing so they have continued to blazed the trails of paths paved before them by musical home town heroes like (Derek “DOA” Allen. George “G-One” Archie, Joe “J-Prodigal” Archie, Jimi Morris, and Robert Brookins). With experience in producing all genres of music, the duo has had the opportunity to tour, compose and produce music for many artists and company. The goals of Bigs and Bangs is to focus on growing their brand, channeling good energy, providing great music to current and future artist, and to continue establishing a positive business reputation throughout the music industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Moving from Sacramento to LA has had its challenges with establishing our brand as a producers and a production company and building certain relationships within this industry even with our prior business relationships. But we embrace challenges because we thrive and shine our best when having to show and prove we are meant to be in the rooms we end up in. We have been extremely blessed nonetheless and nothing has stopped our company’s progress, growth, or creativity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
BIG MIKE & BUDDY BANGS are music producers, touring musicians, songwriters, recording, mixing, mastering engineers. We pride ourselves on being able to working with all artist in multiple genres of music, being musicians first allows us to step out of genres like Trap, Hip Hop, R&B which many producers today are limited to and easily step into the worlds or Country, Pop, Latin, Gospel and Afro Beat music. Having the skill set to comfortably transition one to the other affords the opportunities to work with multiple talented artists and not be limited but lets us incorporate elements of all these genres which helps the creative process.

We are known for pushing limit in our sound but not staying stuck in the sound of music at the moment but finding ways to make the today’s current feels of music meet our vision for the next wave of what music is going to sound and feel like. We are most proud of our ability to not get comfortable with any accomplishments we may have, this mindset helps keep us grounded and focus on what’s next. The things that set us apart from many other is our relationship with God, our faith in him is what drives us and keeps motivated because God never fails and is apart of all that we go. You have to have a strong relationship with God to work in this career field. Being an actual musician is an added bonus, playing real acoustic instruments (guitar, bass, piano, and drummers) elevate your production and automatically separates you from others.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
We have learned to never give up, continue to grow and always be willing to learn, in life you are forever a student. The most valued lesson would be for us and should be to all, is to understand that comparisons is the biggest killer of dreams, goals and aspirations. There is only one you and no matter who else is already in your desired lane or choosing to do exactly what you’re doing, they’ll never do it exactly the way you do it. Your fingerprint in this world is custom and some maybe similar but not the same, which means there is room for you in this creative space. There is an audience, fan base, and exact demographic that your supply is a custom fit for their demand. KFC, POP EYES, CHURCHES AND JOLLIE B all sell chicken and they are all EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL franchised businesses making the same product their way. So we learned in this saturated music business to create music with our custom fingerprint.
