Daily Inspiration: Meet Myeisha Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myeisha Brooks.

Hi Myeisha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I know this sounds cliché, but for as long as I could remember, I have always had a passion to help others. As a young child, I grew up watching my grandmothers help others in any way that they could. I always admired their selflessness and their ability to inspire others through the connections they made. I made it my life mission to try to be the person my Grandmothers were for me and so many others. After taking my first psychology class, I felt really connected to the nature of psychology and the ability to connect and build relationships with humans. I made a commitment to always follow my heart and my desire to help others change and connect not just to those around them, but most importantly to themselves. I completed my undergrad at California State University Northridge, CSUN and majored in Psychology and finished up my Masters at California State University Los Angeles, CSULA. I have experience working in Treatment Centers, Schools, Community Mental Health, In-Home Counseling, and am currently in Private Practice where I see individuals and couples.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been easy, but I truly believe that what I have gone through has helped me to grow as a Therapist. I have struggled with anxiety as an adolescent and with Postpartum Anxiety as an adult. I had my own struggles throughout my pregnancies and what was most helpful for me was being able to share my story and my struggles in a safe space amongst those who support me most. I have gone to therapy myself and found to be very beneficial and life-changing. It helped me to honor myself and be the best version of myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My practice is located in Encino, CA. I specialize in treating Sexual Trauma, Eating Disorders, and Postpartum Depression/Anxiety. I am very passionate about helping BIPOC folx and other marginalized populations heal from generational traumas, systemic racism, and oppression. I utilize EMDR (Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy and Brainspotting in my work with clients to help them heal from their traumas. I truly believe that we need to continue to create a safe space for healing for everyone in order to create change. I am most proud of being a mother of two beautiful babies, a loving wife, and a businesswoman who celebrates her heritage and embraces her flaws. I think what sets me apart from others is I like to live a life full of generosity and curiosity. I think that there are many times we need to be generous and give back to others and that we should always come from a place of curiosity because it allows us to gain a deeper understanding of those around us and the environment we live in.

What matters most to you?
Humanity and being human first is what matters to me most. We live in a world where we face difficulties and I think often times we forget to be human first. If we could lend ourselves to being human more often, we truly can live in a world where we can make space for empathy, forgiveness, and peace.
