Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazzy Mejia.
Hi Jazzy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Starting at a young age, I’ve always had a sweet tooth. Growing up, I began to experiment in my mom’s kitchen and that’s how my sweet journey began. I started making traditional flavored cupcakes such as vanilla, chocolate and strawberry then I began to think outside the box. I thought, What were my and most people that live in Los Angeles favorite snacks and munchies.
And why not convert them into not only a munchie meal but a dessert that will satisfy all cravings in a unique way. Which is how LAzucar began & is still growing, adding more desserts and flavors from around the globe. From horchata flavored cupcakes, Irish scones, new Ireland beignets to crepes………LA’s best azucar.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Between being a full-time cheer/dance coach, attending college, helping run the family dance studio and trying to grow my small business has been a real struggle. Baking is a passion of mine but with my schedule it has been hard to focus solely on LAzucar. I am thankful to have a strong support system that has helped me get to where I am today. Being in a global pandemic has had its pro’s and cons. Luckily one of the benefits during these times was that I have been able to focus more on growing LAzucar and comforting everyone and their sweet tooth, one dessert at a time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am both a baker and a cheer/dance coach. During the week, I coach both a youth cheer team & a youth hip-hop team along a high school hiphop team. On the weekends, I am a full-time small business owner and baker of LAzucar. Where I make cupcakes, brownies, crepes, New Orleans inspired beignets, cookie flavored rice crisps & Irish scones. We are mainly known for our horchata mazapan cupcakes & New Orleans beignets. We are proud to say we have traveled the globe to Ireland, New Orleans and more to make sure we bring the most authentic tastes to our customers, with a hint of LA spice. LAzucar. was built around our originality and creativity making sure our tasty menu brings smiles and good experiences to our customers with our new items and authenticity in flavors.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe creating a friendly, warm environment for everyone and being able to showcase my passion and love for baking through my sweets has been an important quality that has helped us get to where we are now and help us to continue to grow.
