Meet Sadé E. Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sadé E. Moore.

Sadé, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m an American Actress, Author, Dancer and Entrepreneur that uses art as a dual form of activism and entertainment. I got started in theatre and dance as a young girl but struggled with awkward tendencies and low self-esteem. Additionally, my Mother and Father had difficulties financially fueling my childhood interest, so I didn’t revisit art as a performer until high school where I became Captain and Choreographer of the Pepsquad Team and a dancer at “Philadanco Dance School” in West Oak Lane Philadelphia- studying Hip-Hop, Jazz, Tap and Ballet.

After graduating from “Architecture and Design Charter HS”, I attended “The American Musical Dramatic Academy” in NYC to pursue my dream of becoming a Broadway and Film star. While completing the drama program at AMDA, I continued training in Jazz and theatre dance; however, I lacked the intense dance training that my heart desired. Soon, I discovered that upon graduating from AMDA at 19 that there was still personal development that I had to experience before diving into characters without knowing myself. I didn’t want to suffer the typecasting stereotypes through ignorance, so I chose to earn my BA in a subject that would be an asset to my role as an artist but not centered in it- so, I studied English with an emphasis in Creative Writing.

Coming to terms with what I wanted to study exactly was a PROCESS…lol, OMG, I changed my major so many times because the biggest major was myself and I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted, therefore, I used that time to learn my interest, what I liked or didn’t, what I value and why. College was a place for me to experience ME in a supportive environment of endless opportunity- It was like doing a breakdown character analysis when an actor gets a script, only I was the subject of analysis. I mean after all, our job as storytellers is to portray human life in all its complexities, right…lol?

Studying English and reading literature expanded my world view and has inspired the way I approach relationships, art and communal structures. I enrolled at Santa Monica College and received the David Simon Dance scholarship and earned my AA degree in Liberal Arts and Dance and later transferred to California State University Long Beach where I shifted between a Biology, Psychology and English major. As I chose the English path, I continued my rigorous dance training in Jazz, Modern, Ballet, African and Tap.

The hardest part of being a performer is surviving in between jobs and persevering through the excruciating questions, “So what’s your real job,” when work is scarce? While in school, I performed in local theatre and concert dance, in addition to being a company dancer at my first church home, “West Angeles C.O.G.I.C” and then the latter, “Faithful Central Bible Church.” I’ve been blessed and fortunate to encounter mentors that inspired, enriched and educated me on my journey to not only becoming a successful artist but an amazing human being. I’ve landed roles in prominent Film and Tv shows such as “Dolomite Is My Name,” “American Soul,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “POSE Fx” and more.

Although COVID-19 has put a halt on opportunities in film, tv and theater, the digital and ecommerce world continues to thrive; therefore, I have a “Women On the MOVE,” online merchandise store that seeks to inspire and encourage self-esteem through movement and fashion. 3% of each purchase assists women 18-40 majoring in Dance, Fashion, or Sports Science. Clients can visit womenonthemove.shop for purchases.

My voyage has simply been one of trial, error, faith, persistence and self-acceptance- one that’s continuing to unfold daily. After suffering a short period of homelessness, I wrote two books: “Soul Manifesto: A 49 Day Journey To Great Healing, Health & Happiness” and “Shut The Fuck Up and Write,” to address fear and anxiety while offering readers hope and practical wisdom to help them shift from being potential and passive observers to active creators of their own destiny. This has and still is a journey for me as well, and today, in this moment, I’ve landed at a place of peace and uncertainty, but faith, prayer and laughter reminds me that there’s still so much more to come and to currently be grateful for!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not a smooth road for a long shot, lol, in fact it’s been bumpy, tumultuous, cold, beautiful, and complex!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What are some bullet points you can share with our audience?
