Today we’d like to introduce you to Zoe Gillis.
Zoe, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Before I could walk, I was climbing out of my crib to explore the world. As I grew up, I discovered I loved personal development as much as I loved the thrill of going on adventures in the wilderness. I started my journey working as a backpacking guide for youth at risk and then for the past ten years have worked as a therapist in LA for creative entrepreneurs. Now, I offer intensive group coaching programs that help creative and adventurous entrepreneurs move through mental and emotional blocks so they can take their business to the next level.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a crazy windy and zigzagging road! Totally worth every twist and turn, but sometimes it still feels like I don’t know what is coming around the corner. I like it like that though, because it means I am always adapting the programs I am offering to what’s working and what people are wanting and needing.
I tend to work with people over a long period of time, but how we work together changes. For example, some people start working with me one on one and then come to a retreat and then later will join a group program or any other variation of that.
It has taken me some time to embrace my multiplicity of offerings. There is a lot of talk in my business about niching down and picking that one thing. For me, I don’t want to pick between nature, mindfulness, therapy, and coaching so I do it all! Because I’ve decided at the end of the day, the heart of what I am doing is clear and single-pointed. I help people navigate all the difficult mental and emotional challenges that come up when they are running a business that is intimately tied to who they are, which is true for most creative or adventure-based entrepreneurs.
Please tell us about Wild Minds Coaching.
I absolutely love the relationships that I get to have with my clients. I feel like I hit the jackpot in the fact that the work I do is so relational. I get to be a part of people’s life journey in such a unique and intimate way.
The programs I run move beyond therapy, beyond just a weekend away in nature, they are about deep transformation and self-knowledge. The way that I incorporate psychology, mindfulness, group process, and wilderness retreats create an experience that is unique and difficult to find in other entrepreneurial coaching programs.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The light flickering from a firefly in my cup hands. I lived near Central Park up until I was three and that is my very first and favorite childhood memory.
