Meet Kajuan Garnett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kajuan Garnett.

Kajuan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am 22 years old. I am a Singer-Songwriter and Model born in Harrisburg PA where a lot of my family currently live. I moved around for a few years and spent some time in Japan during my teens till I graduated high school and landed in Memphis TN where I soon would get into modeling.

While trying to balance college and working three part time jobs, I eventually signed with a Modeling & Talent Agency in Nashville, TN in 2017. I started booking jobs after being on their board for a few months. After I booked my first National campaign in 2018, I was ready for more.

January 2019, I moved to New York to get signed and to start booking higher-paying jobs. I got a job at Mercedez Benz Manhattan as a valet my third day living in New York City. I signed to Q Management NY after three weeks of looking for the best agency. As soon as I signed my Q contract, I started shooting with different fashion photographers and was confirmed as one of the New Faces of NY Fashion week 19’ on Models.com. Two months after my confirmation on Models.com, I was booking back to back eventually leading me to quit my part-time job and by September 2019, I walked my first published Vogue Runway show.

By November 2019, I managed to save up enough money from my modeling bookings and I visited Los Angeles, California for the first time to sign with a LA agency. I ended up signing my first week in California and shortly decided to move permanently.

I spent my New Years 2020 in New York then moved to LA on January 6th, 2020 to fully pursue my music career and book more campaigns. Since I been living in LA, I just try to stay focused on developing my music and my modeling career. I like creating and sparking something In people. LA is an amazing place to connect with people. You can get caught up partying and get lost in this glamourous lifestyle but I think LA is ultimately what you make it. I’m always learning new things out here from creative people everyday and I’m excited to share my thoughts, feelings and stories with the world. Stay tuned for my first EP coming soon. 🙂

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My biggest obstacle was believing in myself and discovering my own identity because I was adopted at seven. I really had to find myself and figure out what I really wanted out of life. I wouldn’t say my journey was smooth but I really don’t like to complain. I’m grateful for my journey and happy where I’m at now.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am an Artist. I’ve been singing all my life, writing music since ten years old and modeling for three years now. Most people know me as a Fashion Model for Levi’s, Journeys, Studio 189, or any editorials or viral shows I’ve been in.

I grew up singing rnb and pop. I used to sing rnb covers and Christmas songs on my Instagram and Snapchat for years until I got into modeling. Throughout the year, I was still writing songs or poems of my emotions happy or sad. Eventually, I started booking modeling jobs and realized that the fashion industry is connected to the music industry and that the money could pay for my studio time. I stopped going to college and moved to NYC and moved to NYC and LA to work as a full-time Artist/Model.

I’m most proud of my Global Levi’s Campaign that came out this past Spring/Summer 2020. I will never forget this job because I felt so at home on set and realized anything was possible.

I am different from other artists because I try hard to be. I live for me and don’t try to fit in. I’m organic, multitalented, and I bring something fresh and exciting to the table.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is when I am happy and at peace or when I have achieved some type of goal or accomplishment. After working in this industry, I don’t think money defines success. I think your impact on the world and your fans define your personal success. I wouldn’t be anything if it wasn’t for my supporters or the people that love my music or the brands I work with. I plan to win a Grammy one day and model for my favorite high fashion brands Burberry, Dior, and Versace. Most people don’t know this but I also plan on launching my own Jewelry line. I love fashion and want to run my own company.
