Meet Sofia Isella

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sofia Isella.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a 15 years old singer/songwriter/violinist from north LA. I’ve been fighting with Suzuki teachers since I was three. I’m a classically trained violinist, I got into Scottish fiddling and pop music. I started lessons when I was three, my “violin” being a cardboard box with a ruler attached. I’ve been homeschooled my whole life, Los Angeles native.

For my 8th birthday party, all the moms of my friends gave me journals because they want to give me something to “educate my mind,” so by the time I opened all my gifts, I had pounds of journals I didn’t know what to do with. So I got a label maker (I loved myself a good label maker) and started making them journals for specific things. One of them decided to make it a songwriting journal and that was the only journal that was finished and moved on to a second, and a third, fourth, fifth, blah blah blah. We have every instrument imaginable in our house, save for tubas and trumpets, and I have at some point written a song on all of them.

I am known for my big ass earrings.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s just a started road. I’m just dinking around. I’m 15 years old, man, I don’t have a long life story. There was a bully in 6th grade who said I was full of myself. Didn’t even know what that was supposed to mean. I thanked her because who ELSE would I be full of and then went home and wrote a song about it.

What else should our readers know?
