Meet Kid Lennon of Young Hippy Kids (Y.H.K)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kid Lennon.

Kid, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey started about a decade ago at the later end of my senior year in 2011. I was always the kid rapping, drawing, or entertaining the party so in the midst of deciding what to do after high school, this was the only thing that made sense. I release a mixtape the next year which quickly spread my name throughout the city and local high school but it wasn’t until years later after establishing myself in the art and open mic circuit in OKC that I finally gained real traction. By 2016 I was so known around town for my murals and music that I had gained a hosting job a local hookah bar named “Hubbly Bubbly” where I was noticed by the former NBA player Shaquielle O Neil an open mic which ended up with him getting on stage and the video of us performing my song “Hippy Kid” going viral. With the help of the Complex and TMZ coverage, I was able to leverage my Oklahoma audience to start opening for big names in the industry such as Lil Wayne, The Migos, Ludacris, etc.

After doing as much as possible in the Oklahoma music scene, I decided to get a VW Bus and move to Los Angeles to further my reach as an artist. After nine months of living in my van, I made the transition to an apartment where I was finally able to set my studio/computer up to make more moves. The first opportunity that came was to feature on a Red Bull TV show called The Cut shortly followed by the opportunity to perform at the HighTimes Magazine Cannabis Cup. That got me the attention of the magazine owner who offered the job go be the new face of HighTimes and host a weekly show on their channel of 2.6 million. As of lately, I am finishing up lots of big art projects and murals as well as collabs with Afroman, YHK De$tin, and multiple other talented musicians while still hosting my weekly HighTimes show. The journey has been a long and tough one, but a beautiful one to say the least…

Has it been a smooth road?
I’d say the hardest part of my journey thus far has been being in a state like Oklahoma where opportunities for national growth are few and far in between. I made a promise to myself to make my first footprint in my home state before continuing my steps towards my goals. It took a bit longer than expected but I’m glad I stuck to my gut because Oklahoma now is the core fanbase that keeps me inspired and growing.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Music, art, hosting… I honestly couldn’t tell you what I do besides try to create things and moments. I started in life as an artist who slowly transitioned into music which eventually led to me landing hosting gigs with little to no effort. My main goal is to create art and music that lasts not only impacts the world we live in but the future world our kids will live in. I have a team of incredibly talented creators that do everything from murals, music, directing, and anything else you could imagine. We are all young hippy kids at heart and thats where the idea YHK came from which is what we go by and stand for. Hippys do what is “hip” and what is hip to us is spreading the love and knowledge we have gained so others can do the same. Whether it be through art or simple conversation. I’m proud of the message my team sends out with every piece of art we put our soul into.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the weed industry growing exponentially, the music industry hitting a wall and having to rewire the brain of the industry towards streaming, and art will always be well art.. unpredictable.
