Meet Maya Latham and Esli Ortiz of M&E Haus of Nails in San Fernando Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Latham and Esli Ortiz.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have had an interest in nails since I was in middle school and in high school is when we both started getting into nail art. I met Esli in high school where we were on the volleyball team together. We also had a painting class where we truly began to enjoy working together to create art. When her and I get together, we are a nonstop talking machine and we would always get in trouble in high school. There was this one particular day when we had spare time in between practice when I did her nails and ever since then, we have not stopped. After graduating, we both went to college in different cities but in 2018, we reunited. There is something about good friends where you can be separated for along time but when you reunite it feels like you’ve been with them forever. I approached her and asked if she wanted to be my partner because there is no one else I would want to do it with. There was a lot of obstacles in the beginning as we never started a business together but are truly grateful for the experience.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not but we have found ways to just laugh at the pain and keep pushing. In the beginning, because we both were new business owners there were legal things that we were learning along the way. Our shop is completely online so it was hard finding the best way to set up our shop and what platforms to use to help put out names out. By far, we dwelled the hardest on how our product was going to separate us from our competitors. We probably over thought it though because when you see our products is is very clear. Our quality and the amount of variety in our designs truly set us apart.

Please tell us about M&E Haus of Nails.
We specialize in hand-painted gel press on nails. We have over 300 designs and we also take custom design orders as well. We are most proud that we are able to share our hobby and love for nails to the world. What sets us apart from our competitors is our quality and the amount of variety in our designs.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Maya’s favorite childhood memory is painting and sewing costumes with her mom. Esli’s favorite childhood memory is playing volleyball with her older brother and hanging out with her family.
