Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Spratt Pearce.
Allison Spratt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My father was a marine so I was lucky enough to live and travel the world. Doing this, I witnessed the power of storytelling was universal in all cultures. I attended Elon U. for my Musical Theatre B.F.A. I then went on tour nationally and internationally with 3 Broadway Productions.
After, I went to NY where I was in 3 original Broadway shows. I wanted to broaden my tool kit to Shakespeare and the classics. I was lucky enough to be admitted to the prestigious Old Globe/USD M.F.A. program. After graduating, my family decided to stay on the west coast. I have been here for the past few years continuing to work on stage and in television. I am also an acting teacher privately, for the team MTCA and for Universities and Colleges in the SD area. Happily balancing my love of performing and teaching, our daughter Ella is the true light of our lives.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been smooth for the most part, whatever that might mean for a woman in this business. This can be an extremely difficult business, but I have always tried to keep my spirit high, persevere and stay positive. I can only say to others from my struggles and lessons I have learned: Trust and be true to yourself, try to always learn from every situation, stay curious, stand up for yourself, believe in what makes you unique, don’t let others or your rejections determine your worth, listen and be kind to all and others (even if they have treated you ill), don’t gossip and stir trouble, and rise above the BS and keep smiling!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actress, dancer, singer. I teach acting, yoga, voice & speech, direct, choreograph and do many masterclasses. I feel as if I have had a vast amount of experience in both musical theatre, straight theatre and commercial work. I think I am known most for the variety of characters I can play. I don’t pigeon hole myself into the average, all American mom. I can play the villain, oddball, and vixen. My favorite roles are those that transform. I feel with my range of experience paired with the depth I bring to my characters, the outcome is truth for me always. I think that is what sets me apart. I am not ever just one thing.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up around the world, I learned to listen and learn before finding my tribe. I was always Allison: spunky, strong, driven and fun, but I always stayed very curious about others. I tried to be kind and understanding to others and put myself in their shoes. I think it’s one of the reasons why I became an actress. Understanding others and why they were the way they were has always fascinated me.
