
Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Dubin.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a strong desire to help people, animals and the world. Walls Are For Murals is my expression in being able to do that on as broad of a scale as possible.
The gist of WAFM is that we all must work together to solve our problems and that we all have an obligation to make the world better. By wearing WAFM, you are subscribing to this way of life. The full love ideology is written on the inside of the bomber jacket and is the About Us section on the website.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, It’s probably safe to say that nearly all start-ups do not have a smooth and easy trajectory to success.
WAFM soft-launched at Coachella in 2019. We didn’t try to sell the jackets but rather put them on 25 people and see what type of response we get. How often do you wear something that stops someone and is intriguing enough for them to start asking questions? Every person wearing a jacket had multiple people make positive comments, ask to take pics, ask where to buy and show a lot of love. Week 1 went so well that we went back for week two and again, everyone had amazing experiences from total strangers. We even brought tears to someone’s eyes as they read the ideology on the inside.
COVID19 did not do us any favors as being a vendor at live events, festivals, markets, fleas, art walks and more was our primary strategy going into 2020.
Currently, our plan is to produce great video production, work on artist partnerships and make a commitment to putting in the time week over week as the team also has their full time job/career commitments. We just hired on a social media manager, too.
Walls Are For Murals – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Walls Are For Murals isn’t another clothing brand… it’s a lifestyle and way of life.
The written ideology on the inside of the jacket is our mission, love ideology, manifesto, etc. It’s a message of love, unity, beauty, and a deep understanding that we must work together to solve our problems. This is what separates us from the rest. We are specially supported by the artist community.
Spreading the ideology is what we are most proud of, it is what attracts people to the brand, and it is most certainly our differentiating factor. When you rock the brand you are part of a family.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is defined by making a commitment to growing a brand from scratch. It takes time, it takes years. To grow a brand organically, we are expecting it to take 3-5 years. With that comes a great challenge as nothing will happen overnight. It’s about making space and time to work on the brand to push it forward. WAFM is probably best defined as a passion project at this stage. Success is having someone stop you in the street, or yell out the car window, cry when they read the idelogy, and it’s really the constant love and support is what continues to drive us forward and believe we are onto something great.
