Today we’d like to introduce you to Roc Collins.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began painting about two years ago, just being bored at home and needing something else to do. I have always enjoyed arts and crafts at school so painting was a part of that. I first began painting on poster boards and would show my parents. One day my mom’s friend came over and she saw a small painting that I had done, she gave me a $5 bill for it and said: “You should sell this Roc.” After that day, my dad and I took my paintings to the barbershop and I sold my paintings there. Each time I would go get a hair cut, everyone would ask about my paintings. It was great!
A dear friend of the family was shown my paintings and she has been my biggest supporter ever since! Because of her, I was able to receive my first commission order of five paintings to Louisiana, so there were lots of supplies to buy, including canvasses and art supplies. Our family decided to make my business official in July 2020 and shortly thereafter, Rockstone Art was launched. By the time I announced my launch on social media, I was more than halfway already sold out! Since launching my original abstract painting business, I have had the pleasure of doing more than a dozen commission orders for some special people like my Godfather and including one for the very first person who paid me $5 over two years ago. How cool is that?
I’ve shipped orders to New Jersey, Maryland, Florida, Arizona, and all over Northern and Southern California. It’s been exciting. I recently reached a major milestone when I painted my 100th abstract piece since launching my business! There are some special things ahead for Rocstone Art. I’m looking forward to seeing my business grow with the help of my family and all my supporters.
Has it been a smooth road?
I never thought I would start a business much less during a pandemic. But the bright side is that it has allowed our family to be together a lot more. Being on quarantine means I have more time to paint. I know I will have to adjust once the school year begins. Right now, I’m enjoying painting and meeting new people and my customers too.
