Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Volotzky.
Ben, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was raised in the mattress business. My parents founded Beds Unlimited in 1984, a family owned mattress store in Los Angeles. At a young age, I started doing deliveries with my father, which helped me learn a great deal from customer service to mattress values. Prior to fully committing to the family business, I traveled to Europe where I represented the USA on the national cycling team. I later mentored my younger brother to become a national champion in cycling. After accomplishing my goals with my brother, I then committed my full attention to my family and the family business. As the years went by, I started to make an impact. I helped the business grow and sold every name brand mattress company under the sun. I soon came to realize that there were no mattresses that met the standards I wanted to see and too many options that left customers confused. After countless warranty claims with various manufactures, beds that customers could not adjust to, and just out right uncomfortable mattresses. I set out to fix these issues and established Blissful Sleep in 2014. I hope to give everyone the blissful sleep they deserve!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest challenge is being perceived as just any old mattress store when we are so much more. When clients walk through our doors, they have a preconceived notion that they will be bombarded with high pressure sales tactics. After a few minutes of getting to know us, they realize we are here with them to help get them the product they need and they allow their guards to come down. As a family owned company, most of our clients will usually speak with me, my sister, or even my brother throughout the buying process. We’re not in the business of fitting a customer to the wrong product. We want nothing more than a phone call letting us know how blissful their night’s sleep was.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I can’t say that I would go back and do anything differently. If I didn’t have any struggles then I would never know my successes. However, I would want to learn sooner that criticism doesn’t always have to be a bad thing. You may have people that don’t believe in what you do, but there will always be something to learn even from your biggest critics.
