Meet Randy Garcia of Randym in South Central LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Randy Garcia.

Randy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. At the age of 14, I began to play trombone while I was attending Manual Arts High School. I later attended Cal State Northridge and began to study Jazz studies with an emphasize in Jazz performance on trombone. Due to financial circumstances, I had to stop attending CSUN and That is when I decided to focus on making music as my full-time job. My friends and I decided to open up a recording studio and that is when I understood and discovered my new found love and passion for producing music. Since then, I have dedicated myself to produce records for upcoming artists which led me to be invited to arrange, engineer, and compose a song with Frankie J which was featured on the movie “Night school” starring Kevin Hart and Tiffany Haddish. As a trombonist, I have been hired to perform with Ms. Lauryn Hill, Solange – Bridge-S (Getty Museum), Luis Enrique, Oscar D’Leon and more.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Being a musician has been one of the hardest most rewarding career decisions of my life, as I am getting older I am starting to understand how to be wiser about my decisions that I make from day to day. I think the hardest part is sometimes not having consistent work therefore being okay with myself to get a temporary job. This at first would affect my ego and pride but with time, I understood how this was necessary at a certain time of my life and that that is okay.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am most proud of being able to capture your vision and produce the song that you have in mind. I like to make sure I walk with the artist through every step so that they may also learn more about themselves through the process of creating a song. A great example would be of how our band Cometta came about from all four of us sitting down and creating a vision of how the band and music would sound like.
