Today we’d like to introduce you to Darnell “Big D” Cole and Sonny “Wildfire” Campos.
Darnell “Big D” and Sonny “Wildfire”, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Meeting originally back in 2008 at Chaffey College. Darnell “Big D” Cole would bring his guitar to the student lounge and jam, strum a few tunes on the regular. One day Sonny “Wildfire” Campos was drumming along with some pencils and looked like she knew what she was doing so he asked if she was a drummer and turns out she was. They started Jamming with another mutual friend but the vibes weren’t right yet. They split ways and joined/formed a few other bands and then February 20th, 2013 the two reunited and had their first practice and IT WAS MAGICAL. From that moment on the solid core of the band was set. Initially, they began performing as a two-piece for two years and then on year three, they decided to add a third piece to the musical puzzle. Big D was at an open mic and after the set was approached by this scrawny little nerdy kid asking if they were looking for a bassist, little did they know the big beefy bass player that resided in his heart. After one practice and a gig in Las Vegas, TWO DAYS LATER the trio was solidified. The next four years would consist of multiple Tours over nine different countries, two albums, and whole lotta rock.
Has it been a smooth road?
We’ve definitely had our fair share of struggles, band vans breaking down, running out of funds overseas, rotating bass players, and your normal intra-band quarrels and disagreements. There’s also been navigating the industry/DIY scene as an unsigned, independent international touring band. These things are sometimes unavoidable, and come with the territory, but at the end of the day gotta pay your dues, to play the blues.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Porcelain Hill – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are a High energy Power trio, with elements of Blues and Rock, wrapped up in a groovy, soulful covering. We’re very proud of the fact that though we pay homage to the greats before us, we’re very much our own thing, and those who have seen us live will fully understand it. We’re not just another band playing songs, we’re an experience.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The parking and the traffic SUCK!! and honestly sometimes there are times when the scene was more into WHO you knew and what clique you were with instead of the music, but that brings us to the best/our favorite part of the city which is the diversity. It’s easy to find a scene/a venue that suits your taste/vibe and honestly, when you find a good one, its usually a GREAT one.
