Today we’d like to introduce you to LJ, Roach and Tony.
LJ, Roach and Tony, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We all grew in up Texas- Roach (bass) and Tony (guitar) went to high school together in San Antonio and LJ (vocals) grew up in a small town outside of the city. Eventually, we all made our way to Austin, TX and that’s when we really became close friends. Roach was pursuing a career as a producer and decided to move out to Los Angeles. A year later, LJ and Tony decided to move out to LA to pursue careers in music as well. We kind of reunited in North Hollywood and weren’t really looking to start a band, but one night we just accidentally wrote our first single ‘Sticky Treez’ (2017) and felt like we really had something- we’ve been a band ever since that moment. We spent the next few years sneaking in and out of studios across LA, recording and writing as much music as possible, and released two EP’s- ‘Wassup, We Good?’ (2018) and ‘Nah, Pull Over!’ (2019). In the summer of 2019, we landed our biggest tour yet and traveled all over the country playing with 311, Dirty Heads, The Interrupters, and Dreamers. 2020 has been a challenge because of the pandemic, but we’ve been releasing a single every month since March and are currently celebrating the release of our latest single ‘Thank You Mr. Postman’.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, it has been a pretty smooth road. We’re all super close and very supportive of each other- we’ve really learned to embrace what life throws at us and appreciate the ride. I think the most important part about what we’re doing is that we’re just following our passion and trying not to take ourselves too seriously… If it’s not fun, it’s not worth it.
Bikini Trill – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bikini Trill is a psychedelic surf pop band based in Los Angeles, CA. We’ve really created our own little world for our friends and fans to be a part of and are part of a new wave of southern Californian surf music. Part of what brings that world to life is the artwork that we incorporate into each project. All of the merch, graphic design, single/EP covers, illustrations and animations are created by LJ and have really helped to connect people to the music we’re making.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment as a band was for sure playing Red Rocks in Colorado- it’s such a sacred place that so many bands (us included) dream of playing and it was definitely a ‘pinch me’ kind of moment looking out into a sea of people and taking in that experience.
