Today we’d like to introduce you to Cree Patterson.
Cree, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey as a makeup artist started in 2012 after my freshman year of college. My roommate and I went to a nail school (being on a budget) to get our brows waxed for $3.00. When my brows got chopped and screwed, I had to learn how to fill brows in. Thats my earliest memory of doing makeup.
I started and took my first client in March 2013 for $25. Since that moment, I never looked back, I started taking classes and training with local and nonlocal makeup artist, attending trade shows and training in New York and Atlanta. Since then, my work has been featured on numerous bridal publications such as Munaluchi Bride, and Baltimore Style Magazine, Upper Chesapeake Weddings, B Inspired the Magazine, as well as Baltimore’s Fox 45 Morning News and more.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has truly not been a smooth road, from the times with no clients to the waves of being uninspired to Covid-19 wiping out nearly half of my booked weddings & proms it’s been some struggles. However, the deep passion I have for this craft, I could never truly quit!
Please tell us about Faces by Cree.
We provide makeup artistry services for individuals, I mostly specialize in weddings, however I have experience in just about every application, including special effects makeup, We are known for our natural glowing but glam beats and amazing customer service experience. My goal was to bring the ‘Chic Fil-A’ customer service to makeup artistry. An industry that is stereotypically ‘cliquey’ or rude to its customers. I am most proud of my client retention, and how fast word of mouth and good word travels! I’ve been doing this business for seven years, my clients have grown tremendously with me!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I wouldn’t have been afraid to charge my worth earlier on. It took me 3-4 years in business before I started charging a livable rate for the work I produce.
