Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolas Libert.
In April 2014, Emmanuel Renoird & Nicolas Libert brought to Downtown Los Angeles a genuinely subjective collection, an ode to modern life, where pleasing the eye goes hand in hand with timeless quality and functionality. Libert & Renoird weren’t new to the art of curation, collaboration with artists and designers has been a daily element of their lives in Paris, as they built for the past twenty-five years one of the biggest private collection of contemporary art and design in France.
A progressive luxury retail and exhibition space in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, PLEASE DO NOT ENTER mixes contemporary art, fashion and design featuring more than 100 European and Asian artists and designers.
Celebrated by the New York Times among others, Libert and Renoird quickly added two highly visible locations to their main space, partnering with The NoMad Hotel Los Angeles and the leading American shopping destination South Coast Plaza.
In July 2020, Libert & Renoird just opened HEADQUARTERS, an appointment only retail, on the 9th floor of the legendary James Oviatt Building in Downtown Los Angeles. HEADQUARTERS is the new hub of PLEASE DO NOT ENTER.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Los Angeles is the challenge: a spread out city made of various communities and neighborhoods.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Please Do Not Enter – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Please Do Not Enter is a shopping experience that features a selection of more than 100 international artists and designers founded and curated by Emmanuel and I, driven by our French culture and aesthetic. Genuine art and design collectors, as well as truly addicted international shoppers, we brought to Los Angeles our own vision of the shopping experience in 2014. In addition to showcasing in the traditional brick and mortar model, we built several projects outside the store, infusing our art program into unexpected platforms.
Since 2014, Please Do Not Enter gave birth to several projects and exhibitions, from public art production to artist’s residency and popup design among others. We strongly collaborate with the hospitality industry, bringing one-of-a-kind shopping experiences to hotels & resorts. Permanent and temporary projects with NoMad Hotels, MGM, FOX Studio, Saint Laurent Paris to name a few, give to Please Do Not Enter a unique footprint in the retail industry.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
As brick and mortar retail disappear and department stores are dying, the future of physical retail has become hardly predictable. Customers struggle with time, praising a rush delivery as much as an easy return of refused goods, raising day after day a bigger frustration far from any genuine shopping experience.
PLEASE DO NOT ENTER is focusing more than anyone on this hard-to-find shopping experience. Mixing a museum like display with a true storytelling approach, we have developed a one-of-a-kind customer service based on an exclusive international curation.
Make an appointment at the HEADQUARTERS, immerse yourself in one of the most remarkable architectures of Los Angeles and discover what shopping should always be, a lasting experience…
