Meet Diego Garcia of Twanguero in Marina del Rey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Garcia.

Diego, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a guitarist and composer from Spain. After 18 years touring and recording for Spanish & Latin American artists, I started my own musical project under the name of “Twanguero”. I have six albums so far (released through Warner Spain and Cosmica Artists in the US), won a Latin Grammy in 2013 as a producer with flamenco singer Diego El Cigala and 2018 Spanish Music Award for Best World Music Album “Carreteras Secundarias”. I moved to L.A. four years ago and I have been involved in many projects like Playing For Change, touring with my band around the west coast and producing music for film and Tv at my boat studio in Marina del Rey.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The music scene in Los Angeles is very competitive. Even so, every day new opportunities appear that allow you to improve your skills, both social and technical. I have been very lucky because I have found people who trust me. I have managed to put together a team that allows me to develop my artistic goals. Both my label (Cosmica Artists) and my publishing company (Peer Music) are very supportive. Also, my bandmates and my publicist have played an important role.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Twanguero is a unique musical project where I merge my Spanish roots with the electric sounds that were born in California in the 1950’s. After 15 years traveling through America, North and South, I found my voice in an amalgam of sounds that I heard in Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and of course the U.S.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have a new single that we are releasing in September. It is called “Cumbia del Oeste” and is a tribute to the great Ennio Morricone. This quarantine has helped me focus on the creative process. I started touring in 1992 and I have never had such a long stop. Somehow my body and my mind are thanking me. Still, I want to get back on the road, especially in Spain.
