Meet Karin of KBD Studio in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karin.

Karin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am creatively obsessed!! I was a sensitive child and learned that I could control my world by creating. I am also a singer for my band Collide. My biggest thrill is to create something new and then move on to the next thing.

I also love people and it is always my policy to treat people the way that I would want to be treated. I always like to have very happy customers. It is such a simple thing to make sure that people are happy. If I was not a designer, I might of been a therapist, or a masseuse, as it is also important for me to help empower, or to heal.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Interesting question!! When I first started, I had zero funds and the need to survive–so I literally worked constantly to get my self out of a bad situation. Consequently, I am a workaholic, but it is doing something that I love, so that is a good thing. The beginning struggles were the hardest–I could write a book! I would go into a store to show them my line and if they did not want to buy it, I would ask what they might want to buy and if they were nice, they would tell me. I would take their thoughts make some new designs and make a follow-up appointment and then they would purchase. It worked every time! I would say that for me working constantly & being inspired takes away the struggles. My biggest struggle now is that I never have enough time in the day!!!

KBD Studio – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Another excellent question. I think what I bring to the table is my creativity!. I am always creating something new and always trying new materials. I like accessories that speak and have personality and say something about the person wearing them. When I see someone who has really interesting accessories & style, I am mesmerized. So ultimately, that is who I design for–fabulous people with their own sense of style.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, it is truly about art, that is my satisfaction. I love to make something new and hopefully, the rest just falls into place. So far so good.
