Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Morningstar.
Travis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am from Indiana. I spent four years there performing in bars and restaurants as a solo acoustic act. One night, I was performing at a high school reunion & met someone there who invited me to Los Angeles. My LA journey began in June 2018 when I drove my car out to LA; I stayed with the person I met and their family living on their roof in a tent for three months.
Since then, I have been developing myself as an artist and using my personal experiences and adventures as songwriting inspiration. Recently, I spent a month living in a van located in the desert where I spent time writing and refining songs for my upcoming EP “4 AM.” which will be available on I-tunes, Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer, I plan on releasing the first single off of it called “Indigo” on July 30th, 2020. I have played venues such as “The Peppermint Club” in West Hollywood. I now reside in Culver City.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. A couple of months after moving to LA, my car broke down on the 101 North & the cost was too expensive to repair. I went nine months without a vehicle but luckily now I have wheels again to accomplish my dreams. Previously, I was living with someone and they kicked me out in the middle of Covid-19 quarantine so I had to couch hop for a couple of days with friends who weren’t afraid to take me in. I spent one night sleeping on a floor. When I ran out of places to go, I drove 4 hrs north to try to camp for two weeks in the woods. I was unable to set up camp so I got a motel room that night. I found a van on AirBnB for $10 a night which led me to Desert Hot Springs the next day, where I spent a month rebuilding myself & writing songs. I am back in Culver City now at a place I was living pre-COVID. It has been a challenging road but I have managed to survive so far.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m an artist. My genre is a mix of alternative rock and pop. I play guitar, piano, bass, sing, and write songs. What I’m known for is being a performer in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area.
What I am most proud of is my drive to not give up despite the challenges that I face. What sets me apart is my uniqueness as an individual. My art comes from within & from the real places that I’ve been.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have had more focus & not let any distractions get to me. To believe in my self as well as those around me who have inspired me to chase my dreams to the fullest potential.
