Meet Wendy Rodriguez of Brujeriagirl in Boyle Heights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Rodriguez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my spiritual journey as anyone would. I walked into a botanica to get help. Little did I know that I would be helping others on a grand level. Through divination, I was told My destiny is to grow in spirituality and my life would change drastically. I was still fully employed when I was told this.

A few months later, I lost my job. I started my Instagram Brujeriagirl as a meme page. That quickly evolved into doing tarot readings, selling homemade sprays and all sorts of spiritual goodies. My online business has grown and expanded on such a grand level. My mission in life is to change people’s perception of magic and brujeria. We are healers.

Has it been a smooth road?
It is not a smooth road. There is a lot of competition in the spiritual community. There is so much envy. It’s also hard because my faith has been tested many times but I have learned to stay strong. However, I am very fortunate to have the guidance and push of my elders, my Godparents, who lead me in the right direction. There are so many people who judge healers and think we are out here cursing everyone. It is not like that.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Brujeriagirl story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in everything that has to do with spiritual work! Everything is handmade. My Big Schmoney Moves Spray, my Big Drip Love Spray, my Sugar Spice and Everything Nice Spray are my best sellers. I sell hand made soaps for abundance, love, good luck. I sell candles. I do tarot readings. I have tons of testimonials to back up my work. I have clients worldwide. I’m really proud of myself. I started my business a year ago with nothing but my last paycheck. I talk to my clients on live all the time. They see my journey. I recently started a cosmetics line: Brujeriagirl Cosmetics and it sold out the first batch out!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I can see how spiritually is more accepted and less taboo. I see myself starting a chain of spiritual stores that incorporate brujeria and beauty across the United States. I am in the process of opening Botanica Olokun in Los Angeles with my partner Brujeriaman.
