Meet Jasmine Smith of 7evendaze in Eagle Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Smith.

Jasmine, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was about six years old when I started to discover and feel that I had love and passion for singing. I used to listen to my brother’s band rehearse in the garage and wanted to sing with them. It was my first encounter with singing and music, and realized the energy and persuasive power that it creates. Growing up in the church, I discovered my passion for performing and was fortunate to sing alongside my twin brother Jonathan.Fast forward to age twelve, I realized my other passion; basketball. Basketball has opened many doors for me and I was fortunate enough to receive a full ride basketball scholarship to San Jose State University. There I met incredible teammates and was under an amazing coaching staff that helped me prepare for my professional basketball career overseas. I played two seasons in Germany and hung up the shoes once I realized that I could no longer contain my desire for singing and music. Coming to that realization made the process and transition easy for me. Realizing my true passion helped me walk away from the sport and confidently pursue the desire of my heart, singing and music. I feel totally free now!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In spite of all of the blessings I have gone through, it was not always easy. There were always folks around who did not see my potential and doubted my abilities. They would say things like you are not good enough or strong enough. Having this energy around me impacted my mental state greatly because at one point I believed them. I discovered doubt and fear really early on which sadly, was a huge struggle for me growing up. I was a very quiet person. Someone who just wanted to work hard but was always in situations that were not in my best interest at times. This made me more determined! I worked even harder. My world changed once my perspective changed. Gratefully I turned that page. Honestly once I decided I can do all things through Christ is when I knew I had a bigger purpose.

7evendaze – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Simply stated, our message is that anything is possible! Pursue your dreams until they are no longer a dream but a reality! Do not become discouraged by all the No’s you encounter along life pathways! Persevere! We just enjoy creating music from the inspiration that comes to us. It’s a lot of hard work but we have fun at the same time. I always look forward to being in our studio.I don’t really look at or consider singing or music as a competition, but I’m glad that I can contribute to this wonderful art. It truly is an expression of one’s experience, coming directly from the heart! Thoughts converted to music.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
No shortcuts! God deserves all of the credit. Next to him is my family! My family is everything to me because each one of them plays a pivotal role in my music. They all have supported me through all of my ventures in life and could not thank them enough. In particular I owe a great deal of thank you to my brother Jason Smith. He has and continues to be my mentor, producer, engineer and my closest friend with all of this. He saw potential in me before I ever knew, so I thank him greatly. All of my other brothers (Adrian Smith, Jonathan Smith and Billy Smith) along with my sister (Erica Tyson) played a major role. Adrian has been a constant positive voice in my ear. I grew up singing with Jonathan. Singing together as well as learning from him has been a blessing. My sister Erica has always been a constant inspiration for me. She has shown me what hard work looks like and what it can do for you. Seeing her overcome so many obstacles showed me that anything in life is possible. Along with my brother Billy who has helped me understand business and to keep my head on straight. My parents I owe my entire life to. They have been the foundation for all that I do and my ‘Why’ for it all. My mother is my absolute everything. She is the center of my joy and my father is my leading inspirational role in my life. Without them I am nothing, so they deserve all of the credit. Next to my family, there are countless coaches, teammates who are now my family, and peers who have all helped me tremendously and believed in me.
