Meet Torrey Drake of Torrey Drake Training in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Torrey Drake.

Torrey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a kid, I was bullied rather severely throughout school. I spent a lot of my lunches and breaks hiding in bathrooms growing up. Not so fun. My self-esteem was Academy-Award Winningly low, and the last thing I ever thought I could do was accomplish any dreams I had – Which, to be honest, were basically limited to just being left alone, at that point.

While this may seem like an odd thing to share for a fitness trainer, it’s what I’ve learned to love to share because it’s real, it’s me, and it’s the honest truth of what sparked my interest in the gym. It was the only time I had to myself where I felt safe, alone, and excited to work on myself. It’s the first time I learned to respect what hard work truly is and just how much it can give you in return.

Through the gym, I realized just how badass one can become if we just commit to a goal. The simplicity in that statement is so often over-looked because of how much it’s over-stated. But it’s a crucial thing to understand and I wanted to help people find that for themselves. I wanted to help people find what fitness meant to them as an individual, because for everyone it’s different.

Through exploring those thoughts, I quickly was recruited by the #1 fitness studio in the world, Barry’s Bootcamp as their youngest trainer they’ve ever hired, as well as quickly became one of their most on demand trainers in the Sherman Oaks area, teaching up to 18 packed-out classes per week.

After experiencing rapid success through Barry’s, years ago, I opened the doors to Private Training and the client transformations, life changes, and friendships haven’t stopped since. Through obsessively putting my clients before all else both inside the gym and out, I’ve managed to quickly establish myself as one of the top Personal Trainers in the area, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon 😉

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, with my background of experiencing excessive bullying, it’s been ingrained in me to appreciate all the friends I have and people who entrust me with their fitness. That trust is a big deal to me and I don’t ever take it for granted.

Because of that, I’ve always made a point to treat my clients with my full attention, fun challenges every month, and just spending quality time getting to know them outside of the gym.

I’m definitely not claiming to have it all figured out and I am most certainly continuing to learn and grow, but so far taking care of my people has proven to be the best way to run a business for me, as it’s been working since day one.

Torrey Drake Training – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My clients are no strangers to randomly receiving flowers delivered to their work or home after accomplishments, hand written thank your cards, home-baked and healthy treats made just for them, and a plethora of other things (Aside from a kick butt workout) to ensure that they feel taken care of and appreciated for entrusting me with their journey.

By far, I am proud to say what sets me apart, and I dare say above others is the relationships I build with my clients.

Don’t get me wrong: It’s not all hugs, rainbows and butterflies, I kick your butt all the way until you achieve your goals and your goals always come first. But manifesting goals is a science, any good trainer can get you where you want to go if YOU are willing to put in the work.

What separates me is just how much fun you will have GETTING to your goal. I always say: In one hour with me you’ll swear more than you do in a week, but I’ll also make you laugh just as much.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success = Providing a service or product so outstandingly helpful and valuable to others it fuels a lifestyle that enables myself, my friends and my family to do what we’d like to do, when we’d like to do it.
