Meet Devon Tracy of OnTrac Training in San Francisco, Bay Area

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devon Tracy.

Devon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey into fitness began around the time of me being eight years old. By this age, I was involved and partaking in ballet, soccer, swimming, basketball and track and field. However, It wasn’t until my junior year of high highschool that I began to solely focus on track and field.

Proceeding my Senior season of high school, I received a full athletic track scholarship to Fresno State. It was during my time in Fresno that I began to volunteer as a track coach and help others with their workout routines and meal ideas. Despite having a corporate job, I did not feel that what I was doing at the time was my career calling. One day I was asked by a manager at the gym, I was working out at the time if I wanted to be a trainer? At the time, my response was NO! Who would have known it had already chosen me.

My mother being a professional athlete, truly gave me an edge on competition and insight. So, you can say as a young girl I saw the mental and physical benefit of exercise.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This journey of overcoming and achieving for me has not always been glitters and glam, however I would not change the path of my travels at all. The road to now began in 2010 when I was attacked on a bus that left me hospitalized. During my hospitalization, I was informed that the athletic career that I adored so much would be no more, and just like that, my career as an athlete was over.

My physicians informed me that I would be lucky enough just to be able to walk again without any limitations or distresses. Shortly after my release, I was placed on disability and with nothing but high hopes to lift my spirit. I began volunteering as a local track and field coach.

To my surprise, the joy and excitement that was once lost had now been found again. I now once again had a purpose. Just to be able and watch and assist at practices became reason enough and worth waking up. It was then, when I realized that my passion and gift was in helping others. Whether I was assisting that of a child athlete or seasoned veteran. I wanted to be in the position to assist them to obtain and achieve their personal fitness, as well as their health and wellness goals.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the OnTrac Training LLC, story. Tell us more about the business.
While I understand the need to be honest is crucial in the healing process. I also feel as working hard, setting goals, and having hope, is just as important in overcoming as well. Knowing that as a athlete, we are fueled by personal obstacles in which allows me to relate, yet understand the mental and physical struggles my clients or other athletes maybe facing while on their road to a healthier and happier lifestyle. I’m not just a trainer, I am an athlete who just happens to be a personal trainer.

I became certified in 2013 and in 2014 granting me the opportunity to hold the credentials of being certified in group training, water aerobics, lifeguard, strength and conditioning, TRX, as well as being a certified in USA track and field coach. Why so many certifications you ask? I love to bring a different approach of thinking to each client and each session, no matter their desired genre. That being track and field, soccer, dance, or aquatics.

OnTrac Training is a mindset designed to help people of all ages, backgrounds and skillsets, achieve and maintain their health and fitness goals. OnTrac Training began as a personal training company that has now expanded into a lifestyle training program.

OnTrac Training believes fitness and health is not something that should last you only for an hour or so. Here at OnTrac Training our goal is to provide assistance that will help individuals get on track, maintain and add new and creative ways for them to transform their life to stay on track.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
In my life and business, luck has played no part whatsoever. It has been a constant and consistent pour of dedication, motivation and determination. Being an entrepreneur is far from easy. Luck is a figure of the imagination. I believe nothing is meant to be easy. You get out what you put in when it comes to life and business.

However, there are some situations at life you may benefit from that require a lack of effort. But when it comes to you positioning yourself to have a better life and creating a better business. That supposed luck you are wishing for is solely based on the amount of time, energy, efforts, blood, sweat and tears invested.

My fellow athletes will know exactly what I’m talking about!
