Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydell Mckissic.
Lydell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started with photography at a young age as my mom always took pictures during family outings. I formally got into the craft during my senior year in high school, where I had my first film photography class. Ever since then, I knew I was going to use photography as my outlet to visualize all of my thoughts and feelings.
Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t always smooth as I would’ve hoped after high school. In college, I really had to find out what photography meant to me. It was also the place where I had to figure out what was going to help me stand out in my art. I’ve hit numerous creative blocks and sometimes felt as if I should stop creating altogether.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I specialize in seeing things differently. I take pride in being able to take an idea or concept and immerse myself in pushing the envelope regarding that idea. I take pride in making art that is thought-provoking and stimulates conversation.
