Today we’d like to introduce you to Lily Frias, Dassy Lee and Marie Poppins.
Femme Fatale is a group of three female international dancers: Marie Poppins, Lily Frias and Dassy Lee. We are based in Los Angeles but are originally from different countries: France, Mexico and Korea. We moved to the United States to pursue our dreams as professional dancers and choreographers. We first bonded as a group when we choreographed our first piece together to enter the competition Dance Delight in the city of Gothenburg in Sweden. This trip to Europe made us realize we had a special connection on and off stage. We won first place at Dance Delight and performed the winning piece back in LA at Carnival Choreographers Ball, which went viral with more than 40 million views. After this experience, we decided to form Femme Fatale. Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to perform, teach and choreograph all over the world on stages for Cirque Du Soleil, Red Bull, Breakin’ Convention, Coachella and more. Femme fatale is a french expression, and for us as a group it means we use our femininity as a strength, our technique as a weapon, and passion as a power.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been an amazing journey, and like in any group, we’ve had our ups and downs but we always manage to communicate and learn from each experience. The interesting thing is that we were all born in different continents and speak different languages, but we always seem to understand each other through dance and in the creative process. We think the mix of our cultures is what makes us so special and in the end, no matter what we all share the same goal as a group.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Femme Fatale – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
We are mostly known for our strong abilities in Popping, Animation, Robot, Whacking and a high level of musicality with a feminine touch. Our mix of cultural backgrounds and unique individual styles is what makes an original and powerful female collective. We work as professional dancers, we teach, battle, judge, choreograph, work in theater, conventions, music festivals and the entertainment industry on Tv, commercials, music videos and live shows. We are proud of each of our creations and the opportunities we’ve had to bringing our style of dance to places all over the world such as London, US, Canada, France, Singapore, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Monaco, Japan. We’ve also created our Femme Fatale training sessions in LA, a safe space for women to come together, elevate in dance and train with us. We cannot wait to show you what else we are cooking for the future.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love that Los Angeles has so much diversity, it’s a melting pot of cultures. After years of living in LA, we continue to discover new places. We also love all the opportunities that there is to work as professional dancers, we have the chance to make our dreams come true. The United States is also the birthplace of HipHop and by living here, we have access to the history and dance culture. What we dislike is the traffic, but at least we get to bump some good music on the way.
