Meet Dr. Nathalie Cabrera of Los Angeles Center for Healing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nathalie Cabrera.

Dr. Cabrera, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From an early age I always knew I wanted to work in medicine. In college, I traveled to India with the red cross to volunteer and provide safe sex education to HIV positive teenagers living in remote villages throughout northern India. While I was there, I met a Tibetan acupuncturist and received a few treatments. I instantly knew that acupuncture was the field I wanted to work in.

Upon coming back to the states, I applied and enrolled at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) in Portland, Oregon. I graduated with a Masters and Doctoral degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and am nationally board certified with the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. I practiced in Portland for a couple of years and moved to Los Angeles in 2014 seeking some more sunshine. I currently practice alongside other doctors at the Los Angeles Center for Healing. Making the move to Los Angeles was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I love this town and the endless list of things to do and places to check out.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Deciding on my career was luckily a smooth road. Definitely feeling so grateful and lucky to have just known from an early age what I wanted to pursue. The main struggle was building a practice when I moved to Los Angeles. I moved here on a whim and knew no one when I arrived. Making the right connections and getting the word out about my practice have been the hardest parts but also the best learning experiences.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dr. Nathalie Cabrera, Acupuncturist at the Los Angeles Center for Healing – what should we know?
I practice Acupuncture and East Asian medicine. Aside from acupuncture, I also use nutritional supplements, herbs, cupping, guasha, electro-acupuncture, and moxa. I’m trained in Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture as well, which as you can probably guess, is popular in Los Angeles.

I have a doctoral specialty in women’s health and geriatrics and I’d say I’m mostly known for treating women’s health, fertility, acute and chronic pain, and digestive issues. The beauty of acupuncture is that it treats the whole person and so many ailments and symptoms are connected to other issues so it can be used to treat a wide variety of complaints.

As a company, I’m most proud of the connections I make with my patients. What sets me apart is that I hold a doctoral degree, the highest degree available in my field. I feel that this extra training helps me provide better care for my patients. I truly enjoy and love my work and I feel that it shows with my patients.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My parents, Rebeca and Jose and my siblings, also named Rebeca and Jose were extremely supportive throughout my schooling and early stages of my building my practice. One of the doctors I work with, Dr. Theresa Gormly, has been a mentor to me and is someone I can come to with anything. She immediately welcomed me into her practice, the Los Angeles Center for Healing and helped me grow my practice. Definitely grateful to work with her every day.
