Meet Sinclair Walker of True Health 4ever in Canoga Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sinclair Walker.

Sinclair, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Although I always considered myself a “healthy” person, my true health journey did not start until 2017. I remember visiting my Sorority sisters at UC Davis and being inspired by our conversation about health and wellness. I watched one of my vegetarian Sorors eat her Chipotle veggie bowl and thought “I should just give it a try.” I had been contemplating trying a pescatarian diet for some time, and I took that visit as a sign. So I finally did it, and I had no idea how much it would impact my life. Almost immediately, I noticed a significant increase in my energy levels and decreased in digestive issues. My daily stomach aches were a thing of the past.

My boyfriend (now Husband) De’Von also adopted the pescatarian diet, and the support system that we created for each other made all the difference, even though we were living a few hours apart. Having someone to share successes and struggles with was motivation to continue our health journey. We began motivating each other to exercise more and adopt other healthy habits, like reading self-improvement books and practicing yoga. We were on a health journey and momentum had started to carry us.

One day we both decided that we were going to make our commitment to health a life long commitment. We saw our future together and wanted to take a proactive approach to health to ensure that our future family would grow up learning healthy habits. We even took it a step further and decided that we wanted to form a community of our friends and family who wanted start their health journey as well. True Health 4ever was born in 2017, promoting a holistically healthy lifestyle focusing on four areas of health: physical, social, spiritual, and economic.

We realized that all of our passions could be boiled down to one or more of those areas of health, making True Health 4ever the perfect umbrella for all of our projects. As my passions and projects have evolved, that still holds true. Today, my role in True Health 4ever, which we nicknamed TH4, is health coaching friends and family, teaching Cardio Hip-Hop classes, co-hosting our True Health 4ever Podcast, planning annual international TH4 retreats, and creating recipes. I have found ways to incorporate all of my passions: health, dance, cooking, and travel into my life and business. I am deeply passionate about learning and educating folks about health, which is where my nickname, The Health Nerd comes from, I am so excited to see how TH4 progresses and evolves over time.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
At first, when we were focused mainly on writing blogs and making videos, the road was pretty smooth. When we started producing products is when we went through our first big hurdles. The most notable being a failed Kick Starter. The first physical product we sold was Black Wall Street the Board game, a family fun game based on real history that promotes financial literacy and entrepreneurship. When it came time to get the first batch of games produced, we decided to do a Kick Starter campaign to fund it. Our goal was to raise $25,000, and we raised about $3,000, which means we walked away with nothing. Were we disappointed? Very. Did we give up? Absolutely not. We took the leap of faith and funded the first round of games ourselves. To our surprise, with the right marketing, we sold out in 2 months! Now we are on the second edition and starting to create the third.

For me personally, the biggest struggle has been with impostor syndrome, the internal battle of feeling like I am not good enough. Sometimes I feel like I need some fancy title or certification to accomplish my goals. Although some additional credibility is in my plan and will be useful for my future, if I followed that stream of thinking for everything, I would be chasing degrees and certifications without actually producing anything of value. I am slowly learning to embrace my unique talents and use those to do what only I can do and create what only I can create. There is only one me, and that makes me special with or without any fancy titles.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with True Health 4ever – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
True Health 4ever is a lifelong promise we made to ourselves to live our BEST lives. We educate and promote holistic health, which we break down into four categories: Physical Health, Social Health, Spiritual Health, and Economic Health. Our mission is to improve the holistic health of the African Diaspora in America.

We are not your typical health company because we focus on the whole person, top to bottom, inside and out. We recognize that your health can either be a catalyst pushing you towards your best life or a barrier keeping you from living your best life. We strive to help people remove those barriers and improve their quality of life. Do feel good when you wake up each morning? Do you have meaningful relationships in your life? Do you have passion and purpose in your life? Is money or lack thereof creating unwanted stress? These are all questions we think are important to ask when evaluating one’s health. Our mission is to develop tools, resources, and programs to address all aspects of one’s holistic health.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I do some informal health coaching with friends and family right now and will be looking to become a certified health coach next year. In addition to coaching, I will be teaching cardio and choreography based Hip-Hop classes, another passion of mine. Dance not only allows me creative freedom to express myself, but it is a great way to get the body moving and to relieve stress. I will also be developing some recipes that will range from fun and delicious recipes to healthy and functional recipes. In terms of traveling, we plan to slowly evolve our True Health 4ever annual retreat into a transformative travel experience where we immerse ourselves in other cultures, re-evaluate our purpose, recharge our energies, and come back ready to take on the world.

In the future we hope to have a physical location where people can go to meet all of their health needs. Services offered will include health coaching, business advising, fitness and dance classes, cooking classes, True Health 4ever retreats, a juice and smoothie bar and much more. The steps we make today get us closer to our goal of opening this physical Health Center.
